Anna Muzychuk's queen sacrifice - Chess Poster
Anna Muzychuk's queen sacrifice - Chess Poster
As Women’s World Champion in both rapid and blitz chess, GM Anna Muzychuk has an outstanding knowledge of chess tactics and extraordinary skills to calculate sharp variations, which she showcased in her game against Jovana Rapport during the Chess Olympiad in 2016.
White's last move was f4, attacking Anna's queen. Most players do not expect a fearless combination from Black's side, sacrificing the queen by playing Nxe4!!, and after fxe5, instead of getting back the queen, h2! guarantees the promotion, as the white bishops and the black knight are blocking the other white pieces, making sure, that the h-pawn has a safe path. As the knight controls the d2 and f2 squares, after the promotion of Black's pawn, the white king is stuck on the backrank, and the grasp of the black pieces becomes stronger and stronger. Soon after making her move, Anna managed to be victorious.
This product was launched as part of our 2024 Women’s Day special series in collaboration with GM Anna Muzychuk.
